"Best Interest of Children" New Research
Advocates of Parental Equality (APE) for East Central Illinois

Journal of Family Psychology: 33 studies now confirm that children in forced joint custody  arrangements were much  better  adjusted that  children in all sole custody arrangements.

The reasearch was based on a random total of 1,846 sole-custody children, 814 joint-custody children, and 251  intact families.   The analysis noted that children in even forced joint custody arrangements have fewer behavioral and emotional problems, had higher self esteem, better family relations and school performance than children in sole custody arrangements.  Also,  those joint-custody children were as well adusted as children in intact families on the same measures.

APE will offer a cash reward of $100 to anyone who can find a single scholarly peer reviewed research study showing that, except in cases of maltreatment,  sole custody is mentally and socially better for children than forced joint custody.

The full research study from which the above information was taken can be found  in the Jounal of Family Psychology ,  March ,  2002, Vol.16, No. 1.
